abase -  cause to feel shame

After one indulges in embarrassing or regretful acts, a witness could abase said person in the future.

abdicate - give up, such as power, as of monarchs and emperors, or duties and obligations

The French desperately wanted to abdicate the power of Louis XVI. #Revolution89

abomination - an action that is vicious or vile

The fact that same-sex marriage is not legal nationwide, or even, globally, to me, is an abomination.

brusque - marked by rude or peremptory shortness

My math teacher has a very brusque personality in regards to his teaching style which makes it hard to really engage in the course. #DatAintOpenSource

saboteur - someone who commits sabotage or deliberately causes wrecks

Only a fake, worthless person would be a saboteur to his/her own friends and/family.

debauchery - a wild gathering involving excessive drinking and promiscuity

My college life will consist of nothing but debauchery. LET’S GET IT.

proliferate - cause to grow or increase rapidly

Puberty is a major proliferator in young people’s lives.

anachronism - noun an artifact that belongs to another time; a person who seems to be displaced in time; who belongs to another age

Many of my generation claim to be anachronism of this time period, however wouldn’t last 30 minutes in any other decade. Sit down and continue to be a social media slave, tweeting about how much you hate twitter.

nomenclature - a system of words used to name things in a particular discipline

Many majors have specific nomenclatures that belong to them.

expurgate - edit by omitting or modifying parts considered indelicate

Expurgate is a “fancy” way of saying censoring.

bellicose - having or showing a ready disposition to fight

Before being bellicose to someone, think love, think compassion, think progression. Cool down and reflect on how you can form a rational solution to a dilemma that life may present to you.

gauche -  lacking social polish

People who are not accustomed to going out often may be gauche.

rapacious - excessively greedy and grasping

The Grinch is an infamous example of a rapacious person, THOSE AIN’T YO TOYS SIT BACK DOWN.

paradox - a statement that contradicts itself

A commonly used literary technique is the paradox, used mostly to make the reader “think”.

conundrum - a difficult problem

It’s irritating how most high school students thinks that every deadline or event must escalate to being a conundrum for them, stop being so over dramatic and start living life right!

anomaly - position of a planet as defined by its angular distance from its perihelion (as observed from the sun); a person who is unusual

A common stereotype held is that teenagers and adolescents who are actively interested in role-play card games are anomaly.

ephemeral -  lasting a very short time

Awful television programs are usually ephemeral due to lack of strong ratings and positive reviews from critics.

rancorous - showing deep-seated resentment

A life-altering decision or action may be looked back upon with a rancorous sentiment, being that said decision or event was a negative one.

churlish - having a bad disposition

Get away from me when I have good vibes if you are a churlish person.

precipitous - characterized by precipices; extremely steep; done with very great haste and without due deliberation


It’s a shame that a lot of homework that comes from students is precipitous
