exposition - an account that sets forth the meaning or intent of a writing or discourse; a systematic interpretation or explanation (usually written) of a specific topic

expressionism -the artist's subjective expression of inner experiences was emphasized; an inner feeling was expressed through a distorted rendition of reality

fable -  a short moral story (often with animal characters); a story about mythical or supernatural beings or events; a deliberately false or improbable account

fallacy - a misconception resulting from incorrect reasoning

falling action- mystery that often involved the supernatural (ghosts, haunted buildings, hereditary curses); disturbing dreams or omens; and characters overcome with anger, sorrow, or terror. They were often set in dark castles or medieval ruins

farce - a comedy characterized by broad satire and improbable situations; mixture of ground raw chicken and mushrooms with pistachios and truffles and onions and parsley and lots of butter and bound with eggs; verb fill with a stuffing while cooking

figurative language- A figure of speech in which things that are different are compared by the use of the words like or as. A figure of speech in which is similar to a simile, but does NOT use the words like or as to compare. Writing which gives non human objects human qualities.

flashback - a transition (in literary or theatrical works or films) to an earlier event or scene that interrupts the normal chronological development of the story; an unexpected but vivid recurrence of a past experience (especially a recurrence of the effects of an hallucinogenic drug taken much earlier)

foil - picture consisting of a positive photograph or drawing on a transparent base; anything that serves by contrast to call attention to another thing's good qualities; a device consisting of a flat or curved piece (as a metal plate) so that its surface reacts to the water it is passing through; verb cover or back with foil; enhance by contrast; hinder or prevent (the efforts, plans, or desires) of

folk tale- a tale or legend originating and traditional among a people or folk, especially one forming part of the oral tradition of the common people.

foreshadowing -  indistinctly prophetic; noun the act of providing vague advance indications; representing beforehand

free verse- poetry that does not rhyme or have a regular meter.

genre - a class of art (or artistic endeavor) having a characteristic form or technique; a kind of literary or artistic work; an expressive style of music; a style of expressing yourself in writing

gothic tale- mystery that often involved the supernatural (ghosts, haunted buildings, hereditary curses); disturbing dreams or omens; and characters overcome with anger, sorrow, or terror. They were often set in dark castles or medieval ruins.

hyperbole - extravagant exaggeration

imagery - the ability to form mental images of things or events

implication - an accusation that brings into intimate and usually incriminating connection; a relation implicated by virtue of involvement or close connection (especially an incriminating involvement); a logical relation between propositions p and q of the form `if p then q'; if p is true then q cannot be false; something that is inferred (deduced or entailed or implied); a meaning that is not expressly stated but can be inferred

incongruity - the quality of disagreeing; being unsuitable and inappropriate

inference - the reasoning involved in drawing a conclusion or making a logical judgment on the basis of circumstantial evidence and prior conclusions rather than on the basis of direct observation

irony - incongruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs; a trope that involves incongruity between what is expected and what occurs; witty language used to convey 
insults or scorn
